On May 23, 2015 at 3:16 pm, Apple Watch Edition unboxing. Apple Begins Shipping Gold Edition Watches to Early Pre-Order Customers

When Steve jobs co-founded Apple, his vision was to democratize technology.

At the time, computers were for governments and rich corporations. Jobs wanted everyone to have their own computer — a crazy idea back in the ’70s. The slogan for the original Macintosh was “the computer for the rest of us.”

For the next 30 years, Jobs worked hard to realize that mission. Although Apple has never made the cheapest computers, in general, the trend has been cheaper and more accessible, from the Mac to the iPhone. For most people, Apple’s products are largely affordable.

This is why the gold Apple Watch Edition — which starts at $10,000 — bugs me. It’s not a watch for the rest of us. It’s a watch for everyone but us. It’s a watch for the one percent.

Both Jobs and Apple’s design chief Jony Ive came from modest backgrounds. Jobs’ father was a blue-collar machinist and Ive’s dad was a lower-middle-class educator. They both attended state schools and pulled themselves up by their bootstraps.

But as they got older and richer, they started to indulge in the pleasures of the nouveau riche. Jobs flew around in a private jet and built himself a luxury yacht. Ive purchased a mansion on San Francisco’s Billionaires’ Row. He also flies private — in Jobs’ old jet. He used to drive himself to work but now he has a chauffeur.

Even though both projected an everyman image with their jeans and T-shirts, they’ve long lived the lifestyle of the rich and famous.

Whatever Jobs did in his private life was largely his business, but his company remained mostly true to its idealist roots. Apple’s ethos of building products for everyone, of “one size fits all,” is beautifully summarized in this quote from Andy Warhol:

“What’s great about this country is that America started the tradition where the richest consumers buy essentially the same things as the poorest. You can be watching TV and see Coca-Cola, and you know that the President drinks Coke, Liz Taylor drinks Coke, and just think, you can drink Coke, too. A Coke is a Coke and no amount of money can get you a better Coke than the one the bum on the corner is drinking. All the Cokes are the same and all the Cokes are good. Liz Taylor knows it, the President knows it, the bum knows it, and you know it.”

Apple was mostly true to this model. When Jobs returned to Apple in 1997, his first collaboration with Ive was the iMac — a colorful, curvy computer designed to bring the then-booming Internet to the masses. It couldn’t have been more democratic: easy, fun and made of plastic. You could get it in different colors, but the idea of building a gold one would have been crazy. Apple’s products were never the cheapest but they were — and are — within reach of most people. The iPhone or iPad you own is exactly the same as the iPhone or iPad the president owns.

The gold Apple Watch Edition is a 180-degree U-turn from this ethos. It works exactly the same as the entry-level aluminum Sport watch; it’s differentiated solely by the fact that it’s a lot more expensive.

In the past, you could spend more money on Apple products, but the extra cash would buy increased functionality. You’d get more RAM or a bigger hard drive. In fact, tricked-out Mac Pros can go for more than $15,000. But with the gold watch, you get nothing but $10,000 bragging rights.

That’s the whole idea. It is expensive to make sure that most people can’t afford it — it ruthlessly weeds out the vast majority of customers. There’s no denying it: It’s rich and elitist.

That’s why the gold watch really bugs me. It’s antithetical to Apple’s founding vision of democratized technology. It’s made of gold to make sure you and I won’t buy it, even if we could afford it.

It wasn’t clear how the company would display such things in stores; there were also concerns about creating a divide between wealthy and less wealthy customers. (As [former Apple head of engineering Bob] Mansfield said, “Apple wants to build products for everybody.”) But Ive won the argument, and in 2013 the company announced the high-level appointments of Angela Ahrendts, the former C.E.O. of Burberry, and Paul Deneve, the former C.E.O. of the Yves Saint Laurent Group. Patrick Pruniaux, from TAG Heuer, a part of the L.V.M.H. luxury conglomerate, was hired last year.

Give me a watch in shiny, gold-colored aluminum. Then I’ll buy one.

                        samsung-galaxy-s6.png

If you're hemming and hawing over which of Samsung's new Galaxy S6 superphones to order, let me help break down the major differences so you can decide which one (if any) is right for your pocket.

First things first. I reviewed both the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, and they're both terrific. They're also almost identical in looks and performance, so you shouldn't sweat the decision either way.

What's the same

Let's make it easy. Everything the Galaxy S6 has, the Galaxy S6 Edge has, too. OK, so there are a few really minor hardware differences, like the G6 Edge's battery that's a skosh larger than the S6's -- 2,600mAh versus 2,550mAh.

More importantly, though, they share these headliner specs:

Glass and metal build

5.1-inch ultra-high definition screen (2,560x1,440-pixel resolution)

16-megapixel camera

Octa-core processor

Available in 32GB, 64GB and 128GB capacities

Fingerprint reader

Quick charging

Wireless charging (compatible with Qi-standard chargers)

What's different

There are two central physical differences between the phones: the shape and the S6 Edge's "Edge screen."

You can read about what it's like to hold both phones in my full reviews, but I will say here that the Edge's two curving-down sides makes the S6 feel every bit like the elite model.

The design comes across as both sharper and more petite, with an air of fragility that will likely make most S6 Edge owners dash to buy a case. (In all reality, everyone should buy a case and glass screen protector if they want to safeguard their investments.)

Then there's the Edge software, which includes ways to quickly reach and respond to the five most important people in your life, among other tidbits, like a night mode that dimly displays the date and time after lights-out. These are nice extras, but hardly catapult you to the next level of smartphone existence.

So, yeah. that fancy double tapered screen doesn't do all that much. But in a world where all smartphones are flat slabs of glass, this is one of the first ones in years that really sets itself apart from a design perspective. It's a looker.

How much more the S6 Edge will cost you

That leads us to the other big difference between the phones: price.

Carriers and retailers will set their own prices in your country and currency. For the sake of comparison, though, the 32GB S6 Edge costs between 14 percent and 19 percent more than the 32GB S6. In dollars, that's between $100 and $130 more for the same capacity.

If I were you…

On an absolute basis, I'd buy the Edge, for all the design reasons above, and even a bit for some of the Edge software too. (In truth, I could take or leave the Edge screen features, but I'd be miffed if Samsung hadn't done anything with that space.)

Too bad I'm not an absolutist. While Tech-loving Me would snap up the Edge in an instant, Financially-aware Me has to think twice about getting the Edge versus spending the extra money on more S6 storage, or something else entirely.

Over time, buying the Edge means you're paying that 14 percent to 19 percent more per month, but when you break it down, the few dollars difference (say $5 more per month according to one plan), amounts to only a little more than a latte. (Of course, those lattes add up over time.)

That's why the standard S6 is our CNET Editors' Choice -- it's the more prudent buy, and the overall better value.

All of which brings us full circle. S6 or S6 Edge, I truly believe they're equally smart purchases. If you're into design aesthetics, choose the Edge. If you're not, stick with the S6.

And if you're still unsure, get yourself into your nearest retailer for a little hands-on time of your own. Bar none, it's the best way to determine which of these two is for you.

                          iphone-6c.png

Reports already suggest that Apple is working on three new iPhone models for 2015, including the expected “S” sequels for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus, but also a smaller 4-inch device. The purpose of the slightly smaller iPhone 6c would be to offer some of the same features available on the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch models to buyers looking for smaller screens.

While Apple is far from confirming any details regarding its iPhone plans for this year, the first images showing what is supposedly the housing from the iPhone 6c have hit the web.

 Future Supplier says it has obtained what looks to be a plastic iPhone 6c rear shell. While it might appear to be similar to the iPhone 5c, the purported iPhone 6c case has some distinct features that suggest it’s made for a new product – assuming the images are indeed authentic.

The case features an oval camera flash cutout that’s clearly different from the one on the iPhone 5c (which has a round flash), but also two rows of speaker holes on the bottom side, rather than just one, as found on the iPhone 5c.

Even though it’s said to feature a plastic case, the iPhone 6c will deliver some of the same features currently found on the iPhone 6, reports claim. The cheaper iPhone 6c will pack an A8 chip, NFC and Touch ID support, which means it should be able to offer users better iOS performance, more advanced health tracking features and Apple Pay support.

What's most likely happen if you drop your iPhone 6 on the ground accidentally? Shattered screen, for it is made of metal and glass, and mostly glass. How to do with it? Here are some solutions for your reference.

                                  broken-iphone-6.png

Get it replaced by Apple

Getting your shattered screen replaced by Apple is easy and surprisingly cheap -- possibly even free, depending on the type of damage and whether you're still under warranty.

Apple charges $109 (plus tax) to fix a broken iPhone 6 screen and $129 (plus tax) to fix a broken iPhone 6+ screen. If you can't get to an Apple store, you can mail your device in to Apple for a shipping fee of $6.95. If you purchased AppleCare+ ($99 for two years) for your device, you'll only have to pay $79 for a screen repair -- though AppleCare+ only covers two incidents of accidental damage.

Finally, if your phone is still under warranty and the crack in your screen is just a hairline (single line) crack, Apple may replace your screen for free, because in certain cases it considers hairline cracks (without any obvious sign of drop impact) to be indicative of defective glass. You can check your warranty status on Apple's website.

If you're going to have someone else fix your device, Apple is probably your best choice: the repair is inexpensive and won't void your warranty (in fact, Apple will extend your warranty from that day by 90 days). Plus, if you can get into an Apple store, you may be able to convince the Genius Bar to fix your phone for free (even if there's more than one hairline crack). Assuming you can make a timely Genius Bar appointment, it takes Apple about an one hour to replace your screen.

The main drawback to Apple's repair service is that if you're not near an Apple store, the company will take 3 to 5 days to fix your phone and send it back to you. Who wants to go almost a week without their iPhone?

Get it replaced by a third party

You don't have to go to Apple to get your screen repaired, but going anywhere else will void your warranty (and trust me, Apple can tell if a non-Apple employee has opened up your phone). But if you're out of warranty anyway, there's no shortage of third-party Apple repair places eager to get their hands on your shattered screen.

When you're shopping around for a good repair company, there are a few questions you'll want to ask before handing over your device:

  •    How much will it cost?
  •    How long will it take?
  •    What type of warranty do you offer?

Because this third-party company will be voiding your Apple warranty, you want to make sure they'll stand behind their work and parts - the last thing you want is a crack-free but defective screen.

Now that Apple is replacing screens for under $150, it's difficult for third-party vendors to compete, price-wise. I called a few local repair stores around Los Angeles and got quotes ranging from $100 to $250 for a broken iPhone 6 screen. The main benefit of going to a third party is time; many will be able to repair your phone in under an hour, and some will even come to your home or office to pick up the device.

Replace it yourself

If you're short on cash but not on confidence, you can replace your broken screen yourself. Screen replacement kits cost between $10 and $25 online and include everything you need to replace your screen, including new glass, a suction cup tool for removing your screen, pentalobe and Phillips-head screwdrivers, and prying tools. Note: This is only for replacing the glass, not the entire LCD touchscreen. A touchscreen replacement will cost you between $100 and $150, so it may not be worth it unless you're keen on taking your phone apart.

There are plenty of videos that will show you how to remove the broken screen, move all the parts (ear piece, home button, digitizer) to the new screen, and then pop the new screen in, all in under 5 minutes.

Of course, the drawback with the DIY approach is that you will void your warranty and you'll have nobody but yourself to blame if something goes wrong.

Deal with it

If you're really short on cash, and taking apart your iPhone 6 scares you, you can also just opt to...live with a broken screen. It won't look pretty, but you don't need to replace your screen when it cracks, especially if the cracks are around the edges of the screen and don't interfere with actually using the phone. If you have one or two large cracks that run across the screen, I suggest looking into a glass screen protector such as Tech Armor's Edge to Edge HD Clear Ballistic Glass screen protector ($19.95) or Zagg's glass screen protector ($39.99) so you don't cut your fingers as you swipe. (If your screen is absolutely shattered, a glass screen protector will keep you from getting cut, but your phone may still be unusable.)

With the newly released iTunes 12.1, Apple Inc. has changed its architecture from the original 32-bit to 64-bit. It means iTunes 12.1 users can only leave their all most iTunes media tools off for the incompatibility issue. But, of course, Tune4win does not let the disaster keep up.

itunes-12-1.jpg

The newly released version of Tune4win iTunes M4V Converter Plus supports iTunes 12.1 perfectly, detecting and launching the latest iTunes with no problem during the process of striping off DRM protection, and converting M4V to plain formats with 20X faster speed. The marvelous iTunes M4V tool is still capable of preserving 100% original video & audio qualities in spite of the fully new Apple iTunes which has been upgraded to a 64-bit application. Every powerful feature counts, such as the function of retaining all audio tracks like 5.1 audio, and multi-language subtitles.

Graphic Guide–Convert iTunes 12.1 M4V with Tune4win iTunes M4V Converter Plus

Step 1 Upgrade Tune4win to the Latest Version (5.1.0)

Launch Tune4win iTunes M4V Converter Plus on PC, and then the software will pop-up a dialogue to inform you new version update;
Alternatively, you can click the first icon on the upper right corner(Tune4win help icon) and choose "Check for update" to view which version you are running.

Tips: Before the above step, please make sure you have already install iTunes 12.1.

Step 2 Import iTunes 12.1 M4V to Tune4win 5.1.0 Tool

After launched, Tune4win will detect and launch iTunes automatically, and click "Add Movies" to import rented and purchased M4Vs.

Step 3 Set Output Format for Imported M4V

Tune4win M4V Converter Plus provides very many output formats for playback on Apple devices/software, Android devices, game console and so on. But, the "Same as Source for MP4/MOV" will assure 20X faster conversion speed and all audio tracks, subtitles preservation.

Step 4 Start DRM-Protected M4V Converting Process

Click the "Convert" tag on the bottom right corner. Only several minutes, you will get an output file with lossless quality. And then, you can easily enjoy the 5.1 audio track and choose a desired subtitle in certain language when watching the converted video on TV or other media player.

Apple Inc. unveiled its watch series in last September, and did not talk about any more other than the name-Apple Watch, sizes and prices.  The date to reveal all regarding the smartwatch has arrived. Let us have a comprehensive look, for the first time, of course, to 2015 Apple Watch.

According to customers’needs, Apple offers 3 kinds of models of the smartwatch: Apple Watch Sport, Apple Watch, and Apple Watch Edition, which all provide both 38mm and 42mm rectangular case sizing options, but materials and finishes vary by collection.

               apple-watch.docx.jpg

Apple Watch Sport

Apple Watch Sport has an anodized aluminum finish, which comes in both space gray and silver. These finishes will actually match most closely with the existing case materials of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, because of their matte look. The display of the Watch Sport editions are protected by a special ion-treated durable glass, similar to what is used on the iPhone, too. The Watch Sport will ship with a rubberized plastic sport band, which is available in a range of colors.

The Sport version of the Apple Watch is the most affordable in the range, but it also is the one that aesthetically most resembles the current iPhone models. Rubberized straps might not suit all tastes, but the interchangeable custom strap system Apple designed for all the watches mean users can easily change those out.

The Apple Watch Sport is $349 for the 38MM and $399 for the 42MM model.

Apple Watch

The Apple Watch is the middle-ground collection of the wearable, with stainless steel casing available in either a shiny polished silver or a glossy ‘space’ black. The stainless steel is paired with a sapphire crystal protective layer covering the display, which should provide additional scratch resistance vs. the basic Watch Sport model. Strap options on the Watch Collection include sport band, leather bands with multiple buckles and a leather loop, as well as a stainless steel link or Milanese loop bracelet. The choice of strap affects the price of the Watch collection.

 The Apple Watch is $549- $1049 depending on band for the 38MM. The Apple Watch steel 42MM runs $599-$1099 for the same.

Apple Watch Edition

The Watch Edition uses the same sapphire crystal to protect its screen, but it comes in either rose or yellow 18-karat gold, which partially accounts for its much higher cost. The Watch Edition also offers exclusive strap options, including leather bands and sport bands with special 18-karat gold hardware in finishes matching the case of each particular model.

Apple Watch Edition will cost over $10,000.

Many people think that the iOS 8 running on new iPhone 6/6 Plus is same with what iPhone 5S/5C owners use. As a matter of fact, there are 3 features that take advantage of the newer models' larger screens. If you have already got an iPhone 6/6 Plus, or are going to pick up one, the following 3 tricks will help you to enjoy it even more.

                                                iphone-6

Trick One: Display Zoom

The new iPhone 6 & 6 Plus have bigger screens than any iPhone before them. Thanks to the new feature-Display Zoom, you can take advantage of the larger screens in 2 ways: show more content or make the content bigger.

To choose the Standard or Zoomed option in Display Zoom, you just need to follow these steps:

1. Tap the Settings App;

2. Tap Display & Brightness;

3. Tap Display Zoom;

4. On this screen, you can tap Standard or Zoomed to see a preview of each option. Swipe side to side to see the option in different scenarios so you can get a good idea of how it will look;

5. Make your section and tap Set.

Trick Two: Reachability
The larger screens of new iPhones are great for lots of thing, however, there are trade-offs, such as easily holding the Phones with one hand, unless the people with big hands will be able to easily make that reach on the iPhone 6.
Luckily, a new feature has been added to help out: Reachability. It moves what's being shown at the top of the screen towards the middle to make it easier to reach. Here are use steps:

1. When you find yourself wanting to tap something that is out of reach, double tap the Home button. It is important to just tap the button-don't press it. Pressing the home button twice will bring up the multitasking interface. Tap the Home button in the same way that you'd tap am app icon;

2. The contents of the screen will move down;

3. Tap the item you want;

4. The screen will move back to normal. To use Reachability again, repeat the double tap.

Trick Three: Landscape Layout (iPhone 6 Plus only)

The iPhone has supported landscape layout—turning the phone on its side and having the content reorient to be wider than tall. But, one thing that never supported landscape mode, was the home screen. That's changed now. This only applies to the iPhone 6 Plus due to its much bigger screen.

When you're at the home screen, simply turn your 6 Plus so that it's wider than tall and the screen will reorient to move the dock to the edge of the phone and shift the icons to match the screen's orientation.
