Ever found yourself plugging a keyboard into your Raspberry Pi because you could be bothered to boot your PC to SSH, or found yourself desperately trying to remember the tiny computer’s IP address on your network?

There are a whole host of Android utilities that can be used by Raspberry Pi owners to make life easier, including a couple that are custom designed.

We’ve collected six of them together, all of which are free to install to Android phones and tablets.

AndFTP

It’s not often necessary to move files to your Raspberry Pi, but if this is something you require, AndFTP is a free app with a paid upgrade supporting FTP, FTPS, SCP, and SFTP.

                                         AndFTP-copy-1.png

Best of all, AndFTP isn’t limited to file transfer with your Raspberry Pi — you can use it to FTP to any supported device, whether that is your Pi or a web server.

Of course, if your Pi is your web server , then AndFTP should definitely be installed on your Android device! AndFTP also supports configuration file imports from Filezilla, so any sites you have setup in your desktop FTP can be quickly setup on Android.

RPiREF

Less functional than the other apps in this list, RPiREF is nevertheless just as important. If you’ve ever been stuck trying to remember how the GPIO pins are arranged, this app has a full reference of all pins and headers.

                                          RPiREF.png

Better still, the information is presented very clearly, so you will only need to glance at the relevant reference page to find the pin you’re looking for.

RPiREF has also been updated to feature the new 40-pin GPIO of the Raspberry Pi B+.

Tune4win iTunes M4V Converter

Why don't you watch such wonderful movies or TV Shows downloaded from iTunes on your smart Android devices?  As we known, all mainstream mobile device brands pay more attention to provide users bigger screen display, higher resolution and so on to let them have a better enxprience of enjoying videos.

But you may meet a hitch when you try to import some iTunes video to a Android phone or tablet, nothing would be showed in the video resource playlist.

                                     tune4win-itunes-video-converter.png

Tune4win iTunes M4V to Android  is a hot  video converter for Andorid users to convert iTunes M4V to plain video format compatible with Andorid system. High time to freely try it and enjoy iTunes videos on your Samsung Galaxy S5, Sony Xperia Z2, Kindle Fire, etc. right now!(There is also Mac version to let you convert M4V on Mac OS.)

Fing

Why would you need a network scanning tool like Fing on your Android device? Well, for a Raspberry Pi user, this could be the answer to one of the most common problems — forgetting the device IP address.

                                         Fing.png

This ad-free app will discover all devices connected to a Wi-Fi network, without limit, also displaying MAC address and manufacturer details, and offers search by MAC, IP, and also vendor. Next time you need to find the IP address for your Raspberry Pi prior to connecting via SSH, launch Fing, check the IP, and enter it into the SSH app — simple!

ConnectBot

One of the most important things you should do with your Raspberry Pi is enable SSH for secure remote connections over a network. This can have considerable benefits, especially if you need to access your Pi while it is performing a particular task.

                                         ConnectBot.png

ConnectBot is a fast and easy SSH client for Android, capable of handling multiple simultaneous SSH sessions and creating secure tunnels, and it supports copy/paste between your Android and the target device.

Although the quickest way to connect to SSH on your Android device, some handsets don’t manage the display too well on this app, so you might consider JuiceSSH as alternative.

Hacker’s Keyboard

The standard Android keyboard isn’t really any good for entering command line instructions which is where the Hacker’s Keyboard comes in handy. Arguably more useful on devices with a larger screen or tablets, this app offers a standard keyboard layout for Android, with all of the characters — alpha-numeric and punctuation — where you would expect to find them.

                                           Hacker-s-Keyboard.png

Also featuring Tab, Ctrl, Esc, and arrow keys, Hacker’s Keyboard will probably prove vital for communicating with your Pi from your Android phone or tablet. At the very least it should save you some time. Many international keyboard layouts are included, while the developer has also provided international dictionaries as optional plugins should you wish to use Hacker’s Keyboard more widely.

What Do You Use?

We’ve picked six of the most vital, must-have Android apps for Raspberry Pi uses for this collection but we’re sure that you might be using some different apps.

What have we missed? Is there a killer app for Android that enhances your Raspberry Pi use on a daily basis?

Let us know below!

                imovie-vs-final-cut.png

If you are a Mac user and you just want to create your own home multimedia projects on your Mac, you may meet a problem: which program to select, iMovie or Final Cut Pro, as both products are video editing tools developed by Apple. Or you may have been using iMovie for editing movies but now want to move on to Final Cut Pro. In the first place, you should give a brief glance to those two programs in order to figure out the major differences between Final Cut Pro and iMovie, and then decide which one is right for you. In this article, we will review iMovie, Apple's early level video editing program, and Final Cut Pro, their high-end editing program.

Apple iMovie ($14.99 from AppStore)                                                                                                                                                  imovie.png

iMovie is part of Apple's iLife suite of multimedia projects. It is geared towards first-time or novice video editors that want to learn the basics of video editing and create their own home movies or videos. In just a few clicks, novice video editors can cut and edit their videos into their favorite films with multiple themes and effects within iMovie.

Some basic features and extras of iMovie are listed below:

• adds photos and edits audio

• the ability to include video titles

• performs simple transitions between clips and scenes

• exports to a few other popular video formats and devices

Apple Final Cut Pro($299.99 from AppStore)                                                                                                                                  final-cut-copy-1.png

Final Cut Pro is Apple's flagship video editing software and is geared toward video professionals. It offers almost every imaginable feature and option when it comes to video editing software.

Some advanced features of Final Cut Pro are:

• batch sequence capture

• allows third-party plug-ins

• multicam synchronization support

• integration with Apple's other multimedia editing software included in Final Cut Studio

Final Cut Pro vs iMovie

After a brief understanding of Final Cut Pro and iMovie, let's take a look at the major differences between those two video editing programs.

1.Video Editing:

iMovie is a destructive video editing program that works by manipulating video files on hard drive. With iMovie, the changes will be applied directly to the video files. But Final Cut Pro is a nonlinear video editing program that does not change or manipulate the media on hard drive, which means it will make no permanent changes to the media itself.

2. Video Rendering:

iMovie offers a limited number of effects, layers and transitions that can be applied to a video clip. So video rendering is usually performed fairly fast. Because Final Cut Pro allows you to add many effects to the already complex data of the video file. It may not be able to provide live playback of the edited file until it has been completely exported.

3. Color Correction:

iMovie provides simple color correction for you. But if you need to do complex color matching, matching color across different cameras, etc, you'd better choose Final Cut Pro.

Conclusion:

If you are looking for a cheaper video editing software that will create simple videos in a few minutes, you should choose iMovie. But if you would like to spend a lot of time to make professional videos and movies, Final Cut Pro is best for you.

More iMovie & FCP Tips for You:

Sometimes, you may need to import your iTunes movie collection to iMovie or Final Cut Pro for editing. But you will find that the movie files downloaded from iTunes are not supported by iMovie and FCP. In this case, you are recommended to use Tune4mac iTunes to iMovie/FCP Converter for Mac, which will help you to remove the DRM protection from iTunes movies and import the converted movies into iMovie or Final Cut Pro.

As a Golden Oldies fan, if you are often turning out some classic songs from iTunes library?

Apple Inc. has carried out iTunes  M4P audio files DRM-free since 2009, which is absolutely a good news for people who are accustomed to  purchasing songs from iTunes store for HD quality maintained. But how about those older songs got before 2009?  It is  truth that iTunes M4P music DRM-free is not always the case, especially for those old iTunes songs purchased before 2009, which are still keeping from copying. If you like to organize them on VLC, one of the most common used media players, you would probably confirm the same problem as above: Get nothing but error message when you try to play the previous DRM-protected iTunes songs with VLC Media Player.

          itunes-drm-m4p-to-vlc.png

Any ideas of extending non-DRM to songs purchased before 2009 for enjoying on VLC freely? Except for transferring M4P to MP3 and other regular formats, one more thing must be done is that rolling off DRM from older songs. Tune4mac M4P Converter is designed to transfer iTunes M4P music to plain MP3 that supported by VLC, which performs perfectly as a special virtual CD-RW drive where you can get DRM-unprotected audio files directly. Ripping, burning and encoding are within only clicks, without wasting any physical CD.

Wanna enjoy all classic iTunes M4V audios on VLC Media Player? Have a try...
Also want to play rented and purchased iTuned M4V videos with VLC Media Player? Have a try...

       guardians-of-the-galaxy-poster-copy-1.png

Guardians of the Galaxy is the 2014 latest American superhero film released on Friday, Aug. 1, which instantly became a huge hit and got about $37.8 million on first day alone, coming to $94 million for the opening weekend, breaking the b ox office records of American movies.

This film features an insolent adventurer Peter Quill who is involved in a bloody fight after stealing a mysterious orb that has been coveted by Ronan, an antagonist with dangerous ambitions and powerful strength that threaten the entire universe for a long time. To escape from Ronan’s attack, Quill is forced to a truce with Rocket, Groot, Gamora and Drax. But when Quill discovers its true power, he thinks it is time to reform his ragtag rivals to rescue the galaxy's fate in the balance.

Tune4mac Studio will bring you an all-round introduction of main characters in the following article:

Chris Pratt as Peter Quill

                                 peter-quill.png

Star-Lord aka Peter Quill: A cocky and sarcastic human pilot who ends up in space - caught in the middle of a universal conflict. Chris Pratt: “Without blowing too much of his origin or anything like that, there’s a petulance to him. He hasn’t really been held accountable as an adult. He’s been able to be kind of free in space and do whatever he’s wanted to do, and that’s really fun because it means that he’s, like, slept with all these super weird aliens. My favorite moment that I had was when I first donned my full wardrobe in the costume department. I put it on and I was just like, 'Wow.' All of the sudden my walk changed a little bit. That was pretty cool.”

Michael Rooker as Yondu Udonta

                                Yondu-Udonta.png

Yondu Udonta: An alien archer in tune with nature - from a primitive species that represented Earth’s first colonization of another planet a thousand years into the future. Michael Rooker: “There's a lot of me in Yondu. When I first read the script, I noticed right away that there were some aspects of Yondu's existence in this world that are close to mine. For example, there's the tough love and attitude I have toward some of the other cast members. In a lot of the movies I've done, I hardly ever do make-up [...] When I get mad, I get red. When I get embarrassed, I get red. When I get turned on, I get red - and I want the audience to see that as well! You know? In the character. So if the character’s getting mad, getting turned on, getting upset or something, you’d  see that in the facial tones and the skin tones and that’s what I enjoy about acting - to be very subtle like that. I prefer to have no makeup at all - but not in this one!”

Zoe Saldana as Gamora

                            Gamora.png

Gamora: A deadly assassin and the last of her species. The adopted daughter of Thanos - who eventually turned against him after a brutal and violent upbringing. Zoe Saldana: “She turns green when she blushes, she turns green when she’s mad, when she’s turned on…  [a joke in reference to Rooker's comments about acting]. What’s wonderful is that she has grown up in an environment that has misrepresented how she truly, truly feels inside, and she’s gonna discover that, hopefully. I feel very excited to be joining the Marvel family of superheroes, and I do believe that the Guardians have bigger powers in a way. And if we were up against Captain America or Thor, we would totally kick ass.”

David Bautista as Drax the Destroyer

                                  Drax-the-Destroyer.png

Drax the Destroyer: A silent, physical, green-skinned brute type, who (in the comic books) died as a human and was later resurrected as, essentially, a biological weapon with one purpose: to hunt down and kill Thanos. David Bautista: “Drax the Destroyer is a pretty bad dude. He’s full of rage and full of honor. He’s very literal. The best thing about Drax is he's hysterical without meaning to be. I think that's what I love the most about Drax." [Acting] is new to me, but I still go to work and I’m a student at this and I’m not afraid to let people know this is new to me. I’m still learning and I’m not afraid to go up to people and pick their brains and ask for advice because to me, that’s how you get better. That’s how I got better at everything I’ve ever done - don’t be too proud to ask for help. I’m learning a lot every day on this project from the cast, from the director, from the crew–even the film’s producers. Just learning, learning. That’s what it’s all about."

Djimon Hounsou as Korath the Pursuer

                                Korath-the-Pursuer.png

Korath the Pursuer aka Korath-Thak: A Kree agent that develops superhuman tracking abilities thorough the implementation of cyber-genetics - becoming a feared intergalactic hunter. Djimon Hounsou: “I play Korath, he's a humanoid but I want to highlight a story about my son: I have a four-year-old son and one day he looked up and said he loves all the superheroes from Spider-Man to Batman to Iron Man. He’s got all the costumes, and one day he looks at me, he says, ‘Papa, I want to be light skinned so I can be Spider-Man because Spider-Man is light skinned.’ That was a shocker to me so I’m extremely excited to be part of a Marvel universe so that hopefully it can provide sort of like a diverse outlook to superheroes or bad guys in those stories. It’s important for us to be part of that, and specifically for me.”

Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser

                               Ronan-the-Accuser.png

Ronan the Accuser: A Kree warrior. Ronan is a key member of the Kree, one of the alien races rumored years ago to potentially be a part of the first Avengers movie. The Kree are enemies of the Skrulls, and Ronan is a super powerful judge, jury and executioner. Lee Pace: “He's been around since 1967, in Fantastic Four number 65, so there's a lot of stories that I've been able to research. I’m just really excited to make a villain that is complicated and that there’s a core of him that you can find something that you understand, you know? I don’t know, he’s pretty bad though He's a bad dude.”

Karen Gillan as Nebula

                              Nebula.png

Nebula: A villainous space pirate who used her fleet to attack various alien civilizations (and The Avengers) - and once claimed to be a descendent of Thanos. Nebula relies on keen battle planning and sharp combat skills (as well as high tech weaponry) to conquer her enemies. Karen Gillan: “She looks pretty weird but one of the most interesting things about the character for me is her very strange and complex relationship to Gamora.”

Benicio Del Toro as The Collector

                              The-Collector.png

The Collector aka Taneleer Tivan: The last surviving member of a highly-intelligent species, he was granted immortality from “Death,” and has the ability to see into the future. He collects actual beings - so that, in the event of intergalactic annihilation, he can reseed the universe with lifeforms. Benicio Del Toro: “He collects things, like everyone does. I think it’s pretty cool that he’s got his own personal zoo.” Fun fact: Director James Gunn claims that before Del Toro gave his answer about the zoo, the actor was actually going to say the weirdest aspect of The Collector is his hair.

Such strong cast of Guardians of the Galaxy must let you can not miss it. If you do not want to watch it in a cinema with the noisy environment,  nor worring about the poor quality of downloading video, I think the best way for you is that converting iTunes M4V Guardians of the Galaxy to MP4 format to enjoy freely!

People could find numerous favorite, hot and interesting movies, TV shows, videos on iTunes. To watch them, people have to purchase or rental these iTunes movies or TV shows for enjoyment. You may have already known you can use iTunes M4V video converter software to remove the M4V DRM protection and watch these iTunes videos freely on non-Apple device. But how to choose a reliable iTunes DRM removal software for removing the DRM from iTunes M4V videos for enjoyment? Here we would show you 4 tips on helping you find a good iTunes M4V DRM video converter.

There are a mass of DRM Removal Tools in the market, all of which are pushed and publicized with attractive descriptions and powerful functions. For most people, they are not professional in this field and it is quite difficult for them to pick the right DRM M4V removal software from the various similar M4V converters. Fortunately, with the given 4 useful tips: convert file type, output, program design and support, people could get a clear mind on choosing the right DRM M4V converter without wasting time and money.

Tip 1: Convert File Type

Ask before buy: does the DRM M4V removal remove the DRM restrictions from my purchases or rentals movies from iTunes, how well it works.

Purchased videos from iTunes can come with DRM restrictions, let alone the rentals of iTunes TV shows, videos or movies. If you need to convert both iTunes purchases and rentals M4V videos to other common formats like MP4, you should check whether the DRM M4V removal software you are looking for supports it or not.

Through our investigation, most of DRM iTunes removal tools in the market doesn't support converting iTunes rentals movies. While Tune4mac iTunes video converter platinum is an exception.

Note: You'd better choose the DRM removal software that can remove file copy protection legally (doesn't hack DRM encryption).

Tip 2: Output

Ask before buy: does the DRM M4V converter can convert the M4V videos to the format I need or the device like Android table I own.

                                           output.png

Think the reason why you need a DRM M4V video removal program, you require your freedom to use your downloads and enjoy the converted DRM-free media on practically any capable device. So the point is that the DRM M4V converter should support the output formats you desire and provide the output device options for selection when converting the M4V videos.

Before you purchasing or trying a DRM M4V video removal tool, check its output list through their product page or screenshot if necessary.

Tip 3: Program Design

Ask before buy: will I be confused on the operation of the iTunes M4V DRM converter I am intending to buy.

                                            tune4mac-interface.png

The most terrible thing is that you paid for a program and intended to solve the problem, but the program itself becomes a bigger problem. When choosing the DRM M4V removal software, be sure that the software is easy opertion and well-designed. It would make your work more effectively. Here is the interface of Tune4mac iTunes M4V video converter Platinum:

--> Free download this DRM M4V removal software on your Mac

If you have not installed one, try to check the program screenshot first. If you have installed one on your Mac, try to use it to see whether you feel easy to work it out.

Tip 4: Support

Ask before buy: will I get technical support from the software vendor. What if there is even no support email for me to contact.

It was a strange day when text messages took over phone calls as the primary way to communicate with personal contacts. For those of us without unlimited texting plans, it can be a pain to keep up with friends and family. Need a free way to send messages with your phone? Check out these apps.

Facebook Messenger

                           facebook.png

Facebook came out on top (not unlike the actual social networks themselves), beating out Google in every way except in quality of audio/video calls. Today, Facebook Messenger remains a strong contender in the messaging arena.

What’s good?

The best “feature” of Facebook is its massive userbase. Even if the recipient doesn’t use Facebook Messenger itself, you can still send free messages to them. You can also make calls for free to other Messenger users over WiFi and data (though data charges still apply). The Chat Heads feature, which causes messages to pop up even when you’re using another app, allows you to continue conversations no matter what you’re doing.

What’s not?

No capability for video calling, which could be a huge bummer for those of you who want something similar to Apple’s FaceTime. Not being integrated with the official Facebook app is a bit of an annoyance. In fact, the app being associated with Facebook is probably this app’s greatest drawback. Requires a Facebook account to log in.

Path Talk

                                path-talk.png

Path Talk is one of the newer messengers to hit the scene, but already it’s making a big splash throughout the community. It claims to be good enough to replace the need for SMS and Facebook altogether, but does it have enough features to back up that claim?

What’s good?

Messaging is free. Path Talk can keep your friends updated on your status, such as whether you’re in transit or low on battery. The interface is familiar and sleek, which is important for day-to-day comfort and ease of use. In addition to text messages, you can send simple voice messages.

But most importantly, Path Talk cares about your privacy. Every message sent with Path Talk is stored on their servers for a maximum of 24 hours before they’re automatically deleted. Worried about text messages being logged? Here’s one answer to that.

What’s not?

Path actually started out as a social network and Talk was its communication feature. Path Talk is the result of Path splitting their Talk functionality away from the social network and putting it out there on its own. For Path users, this is an unnecessary redundancy. Requires a Path account to log in.

LINE Messenger

                                line.png

LINE is a very well-known messaging app that deserves its reputation. With over 480 million users spanning over 230 countries, it really is international, worldwide, and global in every sense of those words. It’s so good that it’s been labeled “the most downloaded app” in over 50 of those countries.

What’s good?

LINE’s killer feature is the ability to make free calls and send free messages at any time in any place. Calls include voice and video and they’re free both domestically and internationally. There are a few other features of lesser importance, such as the “Timeline” that tracks what you and your contacts have been doing lately as well as the ability to use Emoji.

What’s not?

LINE messages can only be sent between LINE users, which means you’re out of luck if your social group doesn’t use it. Despite being used all over the world, LINE’s popularity is mostly concentrated in Asian countries. Requires a LINE account to log in.

WeChat

                                 wechat-copy-1.png

WeChat is an all-in-one communication app that doesn’t have many distinguishing features to set it apart from its competition, yet has built up a massive community of users regardless. It’s not as popular as LINE, but it still blows many other messengers out of the water.

What’s good?

Completely free for sending text messages, multimedia messages, voice calls, and video calls. Group chats can fit up to 100 participants. There’s also the ability to share “moments” with your friends, which is essentially a stream of your photos. Localized to support over 20 languages and certified by TRUSTe to ensure user privacy.

What’s not?

The interface feels a little crowded at times. Requires a WeChat account to log in.

Viber

                                  viber.png

Last year, we noted that Viber on iOS is pretty good. As it turns out, Viber on Android is pretty darn good too. Not too long ago, they released the "Viber Out" feature that lets you make low-cost calls around the world, making it a fantastic option for VOIP. But how does it fare for text messaging?

What’s good?

Not only can you make calls, but Viber is great for sending text, photo, and video messages for free over WiFi and data. Group chats are available for up to 100 participants. Quality is great, there are over 200 million Viber users, and the app has support for over 30 localized languages. Free without ads.

What’s not?

Viber collects names and phone numbers for functional reasons, which is understandable given the nature of the app, but it does raise some concerns regarding privacy and security. Messages can only be sent between Viber users. Requires a Viber account to log in.

Shake up your home screen

The beauty of Android is that you can tailor nearly everything about your phone's operating system to fit how you actually use it. All you need is a launcher -- an app that lets you tweak your phone's home screen.

There are roughly two kinds of launchers available; design launchers and "smart" home screen replacements. I'll walk you through some of the most popular titles in each category.

Nova Launcher

                                             nova-launcher.png

First up is a design launcher called Nova, which has been a popular choice for the last few years. This free app lets you change the number of apps you can fit on your home screen and alter scrolling effects, but that's just the beginning.

You can also completely overhaul your phone's aesthetic with icon packs, widgets, and wallpapers. Many people who build beautiful Android designs do so on Nova.

Nova also offers a paid app called Prime, which adds gesture controls and makes it possible to hide apps.

Apex Launcher

                                             apex-launcher.png

Like Nova, Apex is a design launcher that gives you a ton of freedom to change your phone's design. The apps are quite similar, with ways to change the layout of your home screen and play around with animations when you swipe through screens and menus. Likewise, you can build your own custom themes, or install existing ones.

Apex has a $4 paid app (converted, that would be about £2.35 or AU$4.24) that adds additional gestures and support for more themes built by the Android developer community.

Themer

                                            themer.png

If you want to change your phone's look without a lot of hassle, Themer is for you. This app was built by Mycolorscreen, which runs a website of the same name that highlights custom Android designs.

Themer comes packed with several hundred themes that you can use with a few taps. The themes really run the gamut, from designs that look like a scribbled-on notebook to ones that resemble a spaceship control panel.

Go Launcher EX

                                            go-launcher-ex.png

The last design launcher on my list is Go Launcher EX. This colorful, and at times cartoony, launcher comes with tons of add-ons, including widgets, wallpapers, and themes.

The downside of Go is that you need to download each add-on from Google Play to use it. Also, many themes cost money or credits to unlock.

Aviate

                                            avaite.png

Now on to the "smart" home screen replacements. These apps get that name because they learn what information and apps you need throughout the day and display that for you.

Yahoo-owned Aviate organizes all of your apps into boxes to keep things tidy, and then surfaces collections of apps when it thinks you'll need them. For example, when you get to the office, Aviate makes it easy to get to your email, calendar, and to-do list apps. Likewise, when you plug in your headphones, your music apps appear.

EverythingMe

                                              everything-me.png

Another smart home screen replacement, EverythingMe relies on search to help you find what you need. You can search for anything using the prominent search bar on your home screen to find apps, web results, contacts, settings, and more.

EverythingMe also organizes your apps into smart folders based on topics, such as social or productivity apps. Within those smart folders, EverythingMe recommends other apps you can download. Lastly, there's a widget on the home screen that changes throughout the day to highlight the apps it thinks you need.

Terrain

                                               terrain.png

Terrain is newcomer home screen replacement, and it's one of the most understated of the bunch. The app largely leaves your home screen untouched, and instead hides away valuable information in easy-access menus on both sides of the screen.

On one side, there's a space for you add helpful widgets, such as settings, your calendar, and stories from your favorite websites. The other side is your app drawer, where all of the apps on your phone are organized in an alphabetical list.
